Jim Schaendorf won the Dorr Township Planning Commission’s recommendation Tuesday night for rezoning a parcel of land he owns from residential agricultural (R-A) to rural estates (R-E).
The land is located on 144th Avenue and 24th Street and Schaendorf himself said, “It’s not great farm land,” but his request was because the change would better enable lot splits. Furthermore, he noted 24th Street will be paved in the next couple of years.
Township Zoning Administrator Jason Derry said “Dimensional requirements are much small in R-E.”
A neighbor in the audience said, “I’m all for the build.”
However, a request to build a private road on 138th Avenue was tabled for the lack of information. Austin Knobber said he wanted to save an existing barn on the land, zoned rural estates.
However, concerns about water drainage in that area surfaced.
Commission Chairman Dan Beute said he drove out to the area and agreed it is very wet. He recommended tabling the issue until next month until a better handle can be secured on water drainage.
The vote was 5-2 with Brian Boot and Rich Osbun dissenting.
