The Dorr Township Planning Commission Monday approved a site plan for Viking Diesel Repair on Walnut Dale Drive in the industrial park.

Ron VanSingel said the intent is to build a 7,500-square-foot building for a planned unit development that will include six employees. The building will have five bays and thru-bays and an office.

A five-foot berm will provide setbacks and the structure will have asphalt paving around it and additional gravel parking.

The plan also is subject to review by the Drain Commission and Dorr Fire Chief,

Fire Chief Gary Fordham said he would like to know what is being stored inside the building, whether or not it would be diesel.

Approval was granted on the condition of approval by the Drain Commission.

The commission earlier in the evening a site plan and special use review for a proposed outdoor storage lot on 146th Avenue.

Owners Alex and Linsey Hiestand already have a storage business in Byron Center on 76th Street between Burlingame and Clyde Park.

Neighbor Russ Vos expressed concerns about potential drainage problems and proper screened in fencing.

The Hiestands indicated they would like to store RVs, campers and boats on site.

It was decided that the request would be taken up again at the commission’s next meeting, Tuesday, Jan. 18.
