The Citizens’ Road Committee earlier this month has decided to make 16th Street reconstruction and paving the next local road project. in 2021.

Township Treasurer Jim Martin, a member of the group, indicated the street will starting getting work done next year, from 142nd Avenue to the south to 140th in the first year and from 140th south to 138th in the second year.

The committee’s projects for this year, with estimated total costs of $870,000, have included:

  • Paving 22ndStreet between 142ndAvenue and 146th Avenue, at a cost of an estimated $450,000.
  • Repaving 24thStreet south of 142ndAvenue, two miles, with costs being shared with Salem Township, $155,000.
  • Chip seal for 140thAvenue eight-tenths of a mile west of 18thStreet, $22,000.
  • Repaving Walnut and Park streets, $40,000.
  • Repaving 138thAvenue east and west of 18thStreet, $170,000.

The Citizens’ Road Committee was established five years ago and Carolyn Sandel was made chairwoman. Since then a request for three mills was approved, and it was renewed earlier this month in the primary election.
