The Dorr community is bracing for a a five-day celebration of the Fourth of July holiday, with events planned every day from Saturday, June 30, to Wednesday, July 4, and most of the fun taking place at South Park along 142nd Avenue.

The following is an outline of the activities:

Saturday, June 30

June 30, 9 a.m. – Grace & Kylee’s Angel Dash 5K Run/Walk at Bysterveld Park, 4171 14th St.

    Sunday, July 1

  • Food booths & carnival rides, noon to dusk at Dorr South Park
  • 10 a.m. – Disc Golf Tournament at Dorr’s North Park, first annual Buster Bash.
  • 10:30 a.m. – Community Worship Service at Dorr’s South Park Stage
    Bring lawn chairs or blankets for a music-filled service. Presented by CrossWind Community Church
  • Noon – Bingo Tent at Dorr’s South Park.
  • Noon – Classic Car / Truck Show at Dorr’s South Park. Register by noon $15 for preregister (contact CrossWind Church ), $20 for registration on day of show.
  • 2:30 – Car Show prizes awarded.
  • Noon – All afternoon, Knights of Columbus Schaendorf Cattle Co. Burgers.
  • 4 p.m. – Christian Music Festival South Park. Featured Music: 4 p.m.  Jordyn Osburn; 5:30 p.m.,  Perfect Shelter, featuring Dave Nelson; 6: 30 p.m., Carpenter’s Cross

Monday, July 2

Food booths & carnival rides at South Park

  • 6 p.m., Free Family Fun Night at North Park. Starts with flag raising ceremony by American Legion Vets – at the North Park Veterans’ Memorial.

Games for kids, face painting, fire trucks, free hot dogs and ice cream, Manda Lou’s Bakery- Cookie Decorating for Kids, rock painting event, disc golf demo,
skate park exhibition, Giant Jenga!

Tuesday, July 3

Food booths & carnival rides at South Park.

  • 4 until 8:30 p.m., Community Flea Market at South Park. No advance vendor registration necessary. Set up at 3 p.m. No guns, alchohol, or drugs. Questions, E-mail Roger Smith at rog.discoverquest.org

  • 5 p.m. — “Voice of SW Michigan” Karaoke Contest. Must pre-qualify for this Karaoke contest at preliminary eliminations in the weeks before at 
    5 Lakes Brewing, Dorr, Lucky’s Roadhouse, Gun Lake, Family Tavern, Caledonia CASH PRIZES! $500 first place
  • 10:30pm – Light Up The Sky Lantern Launch at South Park, North Park, your back yard.

Our Lanterns are Eco-Friendly: All bamboo frame, with no wires. Lanterns can be bought in advance at United Bank, Dick’s Market and Chemical Bank

Wednesday, July 4

Food booths & carnival rides, noon to dusk at South Park.

7 to 10 a.m. — Community Breakfast at Dorr Christian Reformed Church. Proceeds to benefit Youth Group Mission trip

10:30 a.m. — 4th of July Parade.
Line begins at St Peter’s Lutheran Church at 9 a.m. or earlier, 4125 18th St.
Parade viewing areas on south 18th Street west on 142nd Avenue, continuing past the parks.

(Non-business parade entrant simply has to show up at the line-up area on time to participate.

Business Fees $50 day of the parade, $40 pre-register; DBA members free. Non-profits are free, but must register. Businesses register at Dorr Township Hall. Call Township hall for more info (616) 681-9874.

Fly-Over by historic WWII Fighter Planes — A Salute to veterans.

All Afternoon at South Park:”Black Hole” Airsoft Shooting Range, food and beverage booths, carnival rides, live music, Karaoke Contest, Famous Ox Roast, Knights of Columbus chicken barbecue, Bingo Tent

4th of July onstage music for lunchtime enjoyment at South Park Stage. Bring lawn chairs and blankets.

  • Noon to 1 p.m. – KaR TunesAcoustic guitar folk, country, and rock favorites.
  • 1 to 2pm – Johnny Cash Tribute, Cal Klokkert
  • 2 p.m. – Karaoke contest. Registration at 2pm, at the South Park Stage Or, pre-register at Dick’s Market or United Bank or just show up for CASH PRIZES! $100 first place, $50 second, $25 third.
  • All Afternoon — The Black Hole Airsoft Shooting Gallery
    A shooting experience with over 30 different black lit, moving and resetting targets. Challenging games for even the most skillful shooters as well as for the novice. Fully automatic, high pressure, airsoft guns with red dot and laser sights make it fun for all.
  • 7 p.m. until dusk – “All In” classic rock concert.
  • Dusk (10:20) 4th of July Fireworks.Bring lawn chairs and blankets.
