The Dorr Township Board renewed its portion of the annual contract with the Allegan County Sheriff’s Department for the service of two deputies.
Dorr shares the services of Deputy Ryan Rewa and Chad Sikkema with Leighton Township. The total cost is about $6,400 per month and $77,124 per year.
The board also took up a proposal to begin a process to replace police vehicles on a staggered basis every five to six years, subject to concurrence by the Leighton Township Board.
It was noted that one of the two vehicles now in use, a Chevy Tahoe, has almost 120,000 on it, which is just about the limit recommended by sheriff’s authorities. They agreed to look into the possibility of buying a new vehicle for between $36,000 and $39,000, but board members said they’d like to see what Leighton wants to do.
They indicated a preference for selling the old Tahoe with 120,000 miles for the best possible price.
if this such a great deal why did salem township get out of the program??
