Dorr Twp. primary election forum will be Wednesday

A Dorr Township election forum will he held at 7 p.m. Wednesday, June 24, at the Dorr Township Hall

The purpose is to enable Dorr voters to ask questions about the Tuesday, Aug.4,  primary election.

Representatives of the millage campaigns for fire and roads will be on hand to answer questions and anyone who would like to speak for or against either are encouraged to attend.

Candidates for Dorr Township offices will be given time to speak and answer questions as well.

Dorr Township Treasurer Jim Martin, whose name will not be on the ballot because he is retiring, said, “Because of COVID-19, absentee ballots are going out already – and some have already come back – the forum had to be put together in a bit of a hurry. There will be another one in late July, hopefully in a larger venue.

Officials ask citizens to please remember to wear a mask and spread out seating.

There is only one primary contest for a township office. Trustee Terri Rios is challenging incumbent Supervisor Jeff Miling.

The Dorr Township Fire Department will seek a renewal of a half mill, rolled back to 0.4863 mill because of the Headlee Amendment, for four years. The money, if approved, will be used to purchase and upgrade equipment.

The other proposal will be a request of a renewal of slightly less than three mills for eight years to fund road improvements and construction, as recommended by a special citizens’ road committee chaired by Carolyn Sandel.
