The Dorr Township Board, after going into closed session Monday night, voted 4-2 to terminate the employment of Jeremy Batch as part-time maintenance employee.

Batch had been working for as many as 20 hours a week on an as-needed basis. His immediate supervisor, Jarrod Simon, wrote a letter to the board recommending his termination, but because it was a personnel matter, specifics were not discussed in public.

“Jarrod did not want to keep Jeremy on as a part-time employee,” Supervisor Jeff Miling said, noting the dismissal was a difficult outcome.

Miling said both parties were met with privately jointly and independently, and there was no other resolution but to take it to the Township Board.

Miling moved to approve the recommendation of Simon, but Trustee Patty Senneker said, “We as a board haven’t heard both side of this issue.”

So the board went into closed session with Batch and used Simon’s letter as well.

After board members returned to open session, Milling, John Tuinstra, Josh Otto and Brian Boot voter for termination and Senneker and Dan Weber dissented.

Batch had been working as a part-time employee for nearly a year at a pay rate of $15 per hour.
