Though there is no general election for local offices between Republicans and Democrats Nov. 8, Dorr Township will have a candidate’ forum from 6 to 8 p.m. Monday, Oct. 24, at the township hall.
The event will feature five Republican officials, four of them incumbents, and challengers with no party affiliation.
The incumbents are Treasurer Jim Martin and Trustees Josh Otto, Dan Weber and John Tuinstra. Terry Rios is the other Republican seeking a trustee’s seat, but she is a newcomer.
The challengers are Arianne Taylor for treasurer and Gordon Lieffers and Barbara Herbert, no party affiliation, and Christina Schwartz.
Two of the challengers are no strangers to local office. Schwartz was deputy clerk at one time, as well as a member of the Parks Board, and she sought appointment as supervisor. She has sought a trustee’s post before as a member of the U.S. Taxpayers Party.
Lieffers was a member of the Planning Commission for 12 years and ran for trustee a couple of times.
Weber has been on the Township Board for eight years as well as Otto. Tuinstra first was elected in 2012.
Dorr Township Library Director Natalie Bazan once again is coordinating the forum and Hopkins police officer Rachael Sadowski is expected again to be the moderator.

I highly recommend all the good folks from Dorr attend. Ms. Bazan and Chief Sadowski do a very good and very professional job. It is good to get to know the folks who are running and it will be time well spent.
You should correct “Arianne”. It is not Adrianne.
