The Dorr Township Planning Commission’s survey of local residents about the master plan has a deadline of Feb. 29 and a public meeting will be held Tuesday, March 17.
Commission Chairman Bob Wagner said one of the key issues is the balance between encouraging residential and commercial growth while preserving farmland.
For example, he pointed out that the commission approved appropriate zoning for an apartment complex on 142nd Avenue at 14th Street, noting “that land was not good farm land.”
The project last year was halted.
Commissioner Dan Beute commented, “I think we know a lot of people are going to move out here because it’s a rural area. But I’d like to know what people prefer (residences as frontage for farms, or residential complexes).”
Commissioner Terri Rios said she worried that not enough people care enough or know enough to fill out the surveys.
“It’s hard to get peoples’ attention,” Beute agreed.
However, it was reported by Commissioner Larry Dolegowski that as of Tuesday morning there had been 302 responses.
Rios noted that Nathan Mehmed of the planning firm of Williams & Works indicated a hundred survey responses would indicate strong interest.
Thanks to Mr. David Young for drawing attention to the Dorr Township Master Plan development process. The more input the Planning Commission gets the better job we can do.
