The Comstock Park man whose car spectacularly leaped over the Dorr U.S.-131 expressway overpass last Jan. 13 will not be ordered to spend any time in jail.

Chandler Cockerham, then 25, was sentenced Thursday to a year of probation and ordered to participate in an outpatient rehabilitation program.

Cockerham’s vehicle was videotaped by a neighboring business at the US-131 at the 142nd Avenue overpass (Exit No. 68, Dorr). The camera revealed that Cockerham’s car barreled up the embankment and then vaulted over the overpass, hitting a road sign and crashing on the other side.

The car didn’t hit any other vehicles and Cockerham, driving alone, only suffered a cut to his head. He pleaded guilty in September to driving a motor vehicle while intoxicated.

Cockerham said he fell asleep at the wheel, but then admitted he he had two mixed drinks and a six pack of beer and then slept for four hours. Court documents indicated he also had cocaine in his system.
