The Wayland girls’ cross-country team finished in eighth place Saturday in a foggy Cedar Springs Invitational meet.

The boys’ team suffered again from having only four runners and did not earn a team score.

Perennial power Rockford took first place in the girls’ competition and Stanton Central Montcalm was runner-up.

Freshman Abree VanDenBrink paced the Lady Wildcats. taking 28th place with a 5K time of 22:54.03. She was followed by Megan Stack in 44th place, Sarah Osborn 50th, Ashley Larsen 58th and Heli Ryhaenen 66th.

The brightest spot of the morning was a sixth-pace finish by senior ace Dylan Pallett, who checked in with a fine time of 16:49.69, about 13 seconds off his career best clocking and his best performance of this season.

Teammate Mason Fine was 35th in 18:21.74, Ethan Manning was right behind him in 37th at 18:25.95, and Arquimedes Miguel-Garcia took 72nd.
