E. coli levels high for Oval Beach on Lake Michigan

The Allegan County Health Department is advising area residents against swimming in Lake Michigan at Oval Beach because of elevated E. coli levels, above the state’s limit for total body The ACHD has posted an advisory sign at the beach.

ACHD will be taking additional samples and will provide an update when the advisory is lifted. The latest test results and advisories are posted on the EGLE Beach Guard website: www.egle.state.mi.us/beach.

Swim at your own risk. If swimming, consider practicing safe swimming and help prevent recreational water illnesses:

– Keep pets off the beach

– Do not feed the birds

– Use the restroom before swimming

– Do not swim in water that smells foul, looks murky, or immediately after a heavy rain

– Do not swallow lake water

– Vigorously towel off after swimming

– Wash your hands with soap and water before eating

– Shower as soon as possible when you return home
