John Schipper resigned as fire chief for Martin Township Wednesday night and Earl Wykstra was appointed as his successor.
Schipper submitted his resignation in writing to the Martin Township Board and it was read aloud by Supervisor Glenn Leep.
“We thank you for the time you’ve put in and all of the things you have done for the township,” Leep told Schipper.
Schipper was named chief in the fall of 2012, succeeding Ron VandenBerg, who retired.
Wykstra was named assistant chief only last month, succeeding Cory Coburn.
“It time for a change,” Schipper commented about his move. “I’m looking forward to spending more time on my farm.”
