A fire just after 2 a.m. Thursday damaged a house in Leighton Township.
Personnel from the Leighton Township Fire Department and other departments nearby were summoned to the blaze at a house in the 4400 block of Camellia Court near the corner of 144th Avenue and 9th Street east of U.S.-131. Firefighters indicated they asked for additional help and water tankers in the effort to extinguish the blaze.
Occupants were able to escape the fire safely. It is not known yet what caused the fire, which appeared to be contained to the attic.
Assisting Leighton were Byron Township, Wayland Township and Dorr Township departments.
