Evie Mathis, daughter of Rick and Cindy Mathis of Wayland, is continuing to work on her expansive skills in the pole vault this summer as she prepared to enter the eighth grade and Wayland Middle School. Last weekend she competed in a USA Track & Field sanctioned meet in Vermontville, Mich., where she cleared an even 10 feet, with is three inches higher than the Wayland High School record for females. And she won’t be in high school for at least another year. She finished the spring junior high track season ranked among the top 10 in the event in the nation, and No. 2 among seventh-graders.

She's certainly one to watch! I will be watching. Congratulations, young lady!
