Longtime referee, umpire, official scorer and Wayland athletics booster Elwyne Powers (second from right) was presented with a plaque Friday night for his nearly 50 years of service to the program. Powers, a 1972 graduate of Wayland High School, was a star member of the Wildcat track team. Since then he has been a referee, an umpire for youth baseball, a booster and contributor to the program in many ways. He most often these days can be seen in a referee’s uniform at the scorer’s table of Wildcat girls’ and boys’ basketball games. He is shown with (from left) former athletic directors Cheri Ritz, Kevin Zaschak, Justin Wilson and current AD Santino DiCesare. (Photo courtesy of Josh Cline)
