Troopers and deputies from the Michigan State Police and Allegan County Sheriff’s Department will conduct a car seat check from 10 a.m. until 1 p.m. at the Gun Lake Tribal Public Safety garage.

Representatives from Gun Lake Tribe and Helen DeVos Children’s Hospital will assist with the event, which is free and open to the public for anyone who wishes to have a child’s car seat or booster seat checked or installed.

Car crashes are the leading cause of injury and death for children ages 3-14, according to the CDC. Correct car seat use can reduce injury to children 71%-82% compared to seat belt use alone.

The Gun Lake Tribal Public Safety garage is located at 2872 Mission Drive, Shelbyville. Though an appointment is recommended walk-ins are welcome.

For further information, or to set up an appointment to have your child’s car seats checked, call the Michigan State Police, Wayland post, at 269-792-2213.
