An electronics recycling event will be held in recognition of “Earth Day 2015” from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Thursday, May 7, at the Gun Lake Tribe Environmental Department directly across from the Gun Lake Casino.
The recycling will be offered in cooperation with local electronics recycler Comprenew.
Due to rising recycling costs associated with tube-style televisions and computer CRT monitors a $10 per television/monitor will be charged after the first 200 units are collected. The Gun Lake Tribe will pay the $10 fee for the first 200 units at the event.
“The tribe supports electronic waste recycling because it is a growing concern to our environment,” a spokesperson said. “When we dispose ‘e-waste’ in our landfills it can leak harmful toxins into our soil and groundwater.
Accepted items include office and household electronics, cell phones, radios, microwaves, VCRs and TVs, computer laptops, monitors, keyboards and mice, printers, speakers and power cords. Comprenew will erase or destroy all computer hard drives.
“Please take advantage of this opportunity to properly dispose of obsolete electronic items,” the spokesperson said. “Comprenew uses best practices in the electronics recycling and data security industry. Comprenew does not ship e-waste overseas, and its zero-landfill policy requires that all e-waste received is recycled, refurbished or reused.”
