Memorial Day parades will return to the in-person variety in Wayland, Hopkins and Martin Monday morning, May 31.

 

Wayland

The annual Memorial Day parade will begin at 11 a.m. at the Wayland State Police Post, 544 N. Main St., and conclude at the Wayland VFW, 735 S. Main St. After the parade, there will be a 21-gun salute at the VFW flagpole.
This parade has a no-horn, no-sirens policy in memory of the fallen veterans.
The public is also invited to attend a luncheon at the VFW after the parade. Cash or checks only, please.
The luncheon will include brats/hamburgers, macaroni salad and chips for $6. Extra sandwiches are $4 apiece.

Hopkins

The annual Hopkins Township Memorial Day observance will be held in-person at 10 a.m. Monday, May 31, at Maplewood Cemetery. The Rev. Mark Heijerman will be the speaker.

Martin

The Martin Community Memorial Day parade will commence at 10 a.m. Monday, May 31, in the downtown.

A ceremony will follow at Geib Memorial Park on 10th Street just north of the downtown intersection.

Local officials said more participants are encouraged and those interested should call (269) 672-7777.

Dorr plans modified holiday events

The Dorr American Legion Post 127 is planning modified festivities for Memorial Day this year due to current state guidance. The Legion will add an outdoor tent this year for customers to eat and drink outside as well.
The Legion will open at noon and begin serving grilled chicken dinners and barbecue pork sandwiches at 1 p.m. until gone. A cash raffle will be drawn at 5 p.m., sign-up begins at noon for a horseshoe tournament that starts at 1 p.m. There will be no bingo or kids games this year.
And the American Legion Honor Guard will be at the following cemeteries in our area at the following times on Memorial Day:
8 am – Dorr American Legion Post 127
8:30 – Saint Stanislaus Cemetery
9:15 – Richter Cemetery
10 am – Dorr Cemetery
10:45 – Jones Cemetery
11:30 – Sproat Cemetery
Noon – Dorr Park Veterans Memorial
