Wayland High School students will perform their spring play I Never Saw Another Butterfly the weekend of May 4-6 at the Fine Arts Center.
The play, written by Celeste Raspanti, is a fictionalized piece about the real-life Holocaust survivor Raja Englanderova. The story takes place in the ghetto Terezin, which was a stopping-off place for hundreds of thousands on their way to the gas chambers at Auschwitz. The title comes from a collection of poems and drawings that were produced by the children of Terezin from 1942 until its liberation in 1945. The play is one of remembrance and hope during one of the darkest time in our global history.
The play is directed by Rebecca Black, theater teacher, and Fine Arts Center DirectorCourtney Baareman as technical director.
Performances will be at 7 p.m. Friday and Saturday, May 4 and 5, and at 3 p.m. Sunday, May 6.
Tickets are $5 for adults, students and senior citizens are free. Advance tickets can be purchased at the Wayland Union Fine Arts Center page from the district website, www.waylandunion.org
