Wayland High School sophomore Evie Mathis competed at the Michigan Indoor Track Series state finals Saturday and came away state runner-up for the second year in a row.

She was clean through 12’3″ (she made every height on her very first attempt) which is a new personal best, but she was unable to clear her next attempts at 12’6.”

The current State of Michigan indoor record holder, senior Brooke Bowers from Forest Hills Central, came in first place with a jump of 13’0.”

Adam Huff, a junior at Wayland High School, is the 2024 MITS State Indoor Discuss Champion with a throw of 169’5″. This also ranks him second in the nation in indoor discus this season.

Austin Graham, Senior at Wayland, also competed in the state finals in the 60-meter dash and the 60-meter hurdles but faced stiff competition and was unable to crack the top 10.

Mathis at one time was state champion in the pole vault at in the junior high level and she was state runner-up in the event at the MHSAA outdoor state finals. She now holds a new school record at 12-3.
