Ex-Dewey’s Auto Body owner dies at age 89

Robert Kenneth Dewey, 89, of Dorr, died Thursday, Nov. 24.

He was owner and operator of Dewey’s Auto Body for many years. After his retirement, Bob continued his passion for auto body restoration, ministering with The Gideons, playing golf, and spending time with his grandchildren.

Surviving are two daughters, Sherrie Bronkema, Linda (Eric) Schaltz; grandchildren, Taylor, Jacob, Nicholas, Abigail (Brett), Lauren, Carlee, Brendan, Aiden, and Eliza; sister, Dorothy Dalson, sisters-in-law, Marilyn Dewey and Virginia Dewey; and a brother-in-law, John Rysdyk.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Miriam; son, Ken; parents, George and Theresa Dewey; brothers, George, Lewis, Oscar, Jim, Don, Rod, and sister, Grace.

Services will be held at 11:30 a.m. Monday, Nov. 28, at Woodward Baptist Church, 2160 76th St. SW, Byron Center, with Pastor Lance Laker officiating. Burial will take place at Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens. Relatives and friends may meet the family Sunday from 4-6 pm at Matthysse Kuiper DeGraaf Funeral Home (Grandville) 4145 Chicago Dr. SW and on Monday one hour prior to the service at church.

Those who wish may make memorial contributions to David’s House Ministries, where his special nephew, Jay, is a resident.
