Hopkins HigTim Kisnerh School star athlete Tim Kisner has been named head varsity basketball coach at Fresno Pacific, an NCAA Division II school.

Kisner, who went on to be a star basketball player at Central Michigan University and who was a member of the the Grand Rapids Hoops basketball squad in the Continental Basketball Association, most recently has been associate basketball coach at Lake Superior State University.

Since his association as a coach in the Lake Superior program, team teams has posted a combined record of 53-13. He will take the reins of a Sunbirds team that had a 9-19 record last season.

Kisner was captain of the CMU hoops squad in his senior year and was a starter for four years at point guard for the Chippewas from 1997-2001. He was captain for a team that captured the 2001 MAC championship, the school’s first conference title in 15 years. He was the first player in Central Michigan’s history to score 1,000 career points and dish out 400 career assists.

He played two seasons for the Hoops and then went to Finland and Poland. He played in more than 350 professional games in seven countries in Europe and retired in 2008.

He also was director of athletics and head varsity basketball coach for Tri County High School in Howard City and led the school to its first district basketball championship in 24 years.
