The Wayland Middle School Drama Club will present “Fairy Free For All” at 7 p.m. Friday, May 20, at the middle school cafeteria.
In the Never Never Land, time is so unpredictable that you can never be quite sure how long you’ve been there. In Scotland, the magical faery folk, both friendly and fearsome, gather in a moonlit meadow to learn from each other how to be naughty and nice. A variety of pixies, brownies, and sprites tussle with a banshee, wraith, boggles, and trolls, while two teenage human captives plan their escape.
However, the combined faery forces of the Summer and Winter Courts are no match for the mortals when the faeries mess with a determined farm wife and a bossy baker lady.
This rough and tumble, rollicking comedy incorporates two traditional Scottish faery tales: “The Changeling” and “The Bossy Baker Woman.” There even are a few allusions to William Shakespeare’s A Midsummer Night’s Dream.
But it’s not over yet! Can the good faeries really be bad? Can the bad faeries learn to be good? And what will happen to the Queens’ captives? Will they ever find happiness?
Stay tuned.
