A ferocious summer wins and rainstorm Tuesday night visited Wayland and West Michigan, with unconfirmed reports of winds as high as 70 miles per hour.
Energy officials estimated that 16,500 residents were without power Wednesday morning. Some victims said their power won’t be restored until Thursday.
Making prospects worse, weather forecasters predict more rainy and stormy weather to arrive as early as Wednesday evening.
Local resident Tracey Klinkner posted Facebook, “At 1am there were over 350 people listening to the police scanner! Dispatch lost internet and could only take incoming calls.
“I listened for a couple hours to the police take on multiple back to back calls. They were so organized and swiftly taking on all these calls. I never seen (well heard of) so many downed trees and arching power lines. Calls were still coming in when I safely went to bed at 2am.
“These guys rocked! I also saw huge trucks with spot lights removing trees and checking for downed lines. Possibly Consumers?”
