Wayland Fire Chief Jim Stoddard continues to make progress in his recovery from a heart attack almost a month ago.

The Wayland Fire Department today on Facebook posted, “Today we celebrate a huge milestone in Chief Stoddard’s amazing recovery! After 30 days at Butterworth Hospital, he is leaving the facility and moving onto rehab at Mary Free Bed Rehabilitation Hospital. We are very proud of him and how hard he has worked to get to this point in his recovery. His medical team has been extraordinary and we are grateful for their care.”

Stoddard earlier this month suffered a heart attack while driving to attend a wedding. His campanions in the vehicle initiated life saving procedures to guide him past the immediate crisis before emergency personnel arrives to take him to Butterworth Hospital in Grand Rapids.

The department posting added, “We now look forward to the next big milestone when we get to welcome Chief Stoddard back home!”
