The Yankee Springs Township and Wayland Fire Departments Thursday evening were at the scene of a fatal motorcycle accident near the corner of M-179 (129th Avenue) and 4th Street in Wayland Township.

Allegan County Sheriff’s deputies responded at about 6:30 p.m. on 129th Avenue east of 4th Street.  On arrival, the deputies found a passenger car in the roadway that had collided with a motorcycle.

Deputies identified motorcyclist as David Rowe II, 41, from the Wayland area who was pronounced deceased on scene. He was not wearing a helmet.

There were two occupants in the passenger car.  The operator was a 47-year-male from the Wayland area and the other occupant was Iaci Botelho-Bosman, a 44-year-old female from the Wayland area, who later succumbed to her injuries at a Kalamazoo area hospital.

Preliminary investigation indicated the passenger car was traveling eastbound and attempted to turn in to a driveway and failed to yield to the motorcycle traveling westbound.  Failure to yield and speed appear to be contributing factors.

The crash remains under investigation by the Allegan County Sheriff’s Office reconstruction team. Assisting at the scene were the Gun Lake Tribal Police Department, Michigan State Police, Wayland EMS, Wayland Fire Department, Yankee Springs Township Fire Department, West Michigan Air Care, Allegan County Medical Examiner’s Office, Kalamazoo County Medical Examiner’s Office and Allegan County Victim Service’s Unit

Firefighters reported traffic lane closures on M-179 between 2nd and 4th Street before clearing the scene later in the evening.
