Shirley Buskirk of Martin died Tuesday, Nov. 29.
She was born April 4, 1936, in Plainwell, the daughter of Russell and Florence (Knight) Curry.
Shirley stayed at home and raised her family and when her children were old enough she began working as the manager at the Carriage Stop Restaurant in Martin for many years. As a young woman she enjoyed bowling on area leagues and playing softball. Shirley loved attending her grandchildren and great-grandchildren’s sporting events, flower gardening and doing puzzles. Shirley liked sitting on the front porch of her cottage on Gun Lake or on the back seat of the pontoon boat.
She was a member of the Red Hat Society and volunteered at the Martin Food Pantry for more than 10 years.
On Oct. 19, 1956, in Otsego she married Dale Buskirk who died in 2013.
Surviving are her children, Randy Buskirk, Michael (Linda) Buskirk and Lisa (Mark) Brooks; eight grandchildren, Brandi, Michelle, Jessica, Justin, Wesley, Travis, Megan and Tiffany; 17 great-grandchildren; brother, Jack Curry and several sisters-in-law, nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband and brothers, Russ, Jerry, Bob and Larry.
Friends may visit with Shirley’s family starting at 1 p.m. Friday, Dec. 2, at the Martin United Methodist Church, until the time of the funeral at 2 p.m., with Pastor Dan Beyer officiating. Burial will follow at South Martin Cemetery.
