Former commander of Dorr Legion Ron Verner, 78, dies

Ronald B. Verner, age 78 of Dorr, died Tuesday, May 14.

Ron served his country in the United States Navy and was a longtime member of the American Legion Post 127, where he served as commander, chaplain and barkeeper.

He is survived by his wife of 54 years, Alma Verner; their children Ron (Luanne) Verner, Theresa (Gary) Karel and Steve Verner; seven grandchildren and two great-grandchildren; his sisters, Mary Lou Guestella, Jackie Ripley and Joy Garber.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Jack and Verla Verner, and brother Daniel Verner.

Hi funeral will be held at 11 a.m, Friday, May 17, at Epiphany Lutheran Church, 4219 Park Lane, Dorr. The family will receive relatives and friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday at the Kubiak-Cook Funeral Home, 4330 18th St. Dorr and Friday one hour prior to services at church. Burial will be at Fort Custer National Cemetery.

Memorial contributions may be made to the American Legion Post 127.
