Former local restaurateur Ruth Pitt dies at age 94

Former Auntie Ruth’s Restaurant in Wayland operator Ruth Maxine (Zuverink) Pitt, age 94, of Lowell, died Thursday, Feb. 23. 

Ruth loved spending time with her family and enjoyed cooking. Ruth and husband Bob would sing at nursing homes to entertain the residents.

She is survived by her children, Caren Fann, Mary Ann (Bob) Kerridge, Cindy Rosso; son-in-law, Jim Watkins; daughter-in-law, Sandy Pitt; 12 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; sister, Esther Scherer; sisters-in-law, Donna Zuverink, Pat Zuverink; many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Robert Pitt; son-in-law, Steve Rosso; stepchildren, Pearl Pitt, Cherry Watkins, Georgia Milligan, Robert “Tuney” Pitt; brothers, Wilfurd, Eldon, and Eugene Zuverink; sister, Adeline Rookus; granddaughters, Renee, Angela, Roberta, Georgia and Caroline.

Visitation will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday, March 1, and funeral will follow at 11 a.m. be at Stroo Funeral Home, 1095 68th St. SE, Cutlerville. Mr. Scott Gardener will officiate. Interment will be in Winchester Cemetery.

Memorial contributions may be made to Emmanuel Hospice.
