Carroll Lewis Brewer, 84, died Saturday, July 16, at Wings Home Hospice in Allegan.
Carroll was born Dec. 4, 1937, in Hopkins, the son of Reo and Violet (Duryea) Brewer. He graduated from Hopkins Public Schools in 1956 He was active in basketball, track and band.
He married his first wife, Coni Berens, in 1956 and they were the parents of three children; Randy, Candy and Tami. Carroll remarried in 1978 to his current wife, Pat, and gained three more bonus children; Sandy, Linda Jean and Dee.
Carroll started work with Allegan County Road Commission immediately after graduation in 1956. He held the position of a foreman at the time he was forced to retire due to the effects of a stroke in 1985. He spent many days up north at Nugent Lake enjoying the pleasure of fishing and hunting and Jones Ice Cream. He bowled on a league with his Father Reo and Uncle “Bud” and spent a fair amount of time on the golf courses.
He is survived by his wife Pat (Campbell), his son Randy (Deb), daughters Candis (Tony) Malcolm and Tami (Tom) Amante; step-daughters Sandy Oram, Linda Young-Woolf, and Dee Woolf. Also surviving are his grandchildren; Chad, Heidi, Amy, Sean, Jennifer, Elizabeth, Sharon, Danielle, Brandon and Jared; his former wife Coni Longstreet, his sister-in-law Pat Brewer and his brother-in-law, John (Merry) Campbell.
He was preceded in death by his parents, brother Fred, grandparents Ray and Mariam (Dunton) Brewer and grandparents Charles and Vera (Ruehle) Duryea.
Visitation will be held at the Hopkins Chapel of Gorden Funeral at 11 a.m. Thursday, July 21, followed by a short service and proceed to Maplewood Cemetery for burial.
In lieu of flowers the family suggests that donations be made to Wings of Hope Home 530 Linn St., Allegan.
