Former Wayland City Treasurer Rose Marie (Durkee) Feldwisch, of Mt. Pleasant died Tuesday, May 19, at Isabella County Medical Care Facility. She was 94.
A 1939 graduate of Wayland High School, she was married to Alois “Fred” Feldwisch for 59 years. They lived in Wayland until 2000, when they moved to Mt. Pleasant.
Mrs. Feldwisch worked as a cashier at the Wayland A & P Store and was a dental assistant for Dr. Arthur Larson in Wayland until she retired. She was a past Wayland City Treasurer and was a member of the Wayland Congregational Church. She was a member of the VFW Ladies Auxiliary Post 7581 in Wayland.
Rose Marie was born Jan. 24, 1921,, in Hastings, daughter of Harlie and Gertrude (Seeber) Durkee.
After moving to Mt. Pleasant, she became active in the Isabella County Medical Care Auxiliary as well as the “Happy Rippers” quilting group.
Rose Marie is survived by her daughter, Linda (Mark) Beard of Mt. Pleasant, also a graduate of Wayland High School; two grandchildren, Amie and Mark R. Beard of Mt. Pleasant. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband Fred in 2001; and great-aunt, Mary Bauer
Her funeral will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, May 22, at Charles R. Lux Family Funeral Home, 2300 S. Lincoln Road, Mt. Pleasant, with the Rev. Jay Laffoon officiating. A luncheon will follow at the Comfort Inn. Burial will be in Elmwood Cemetery in Wayland.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 6 to 9 p.m. Thursday and on Friday one hour prior to the service. Memorial contributions may be made VFW Ladies Auxiliary Post 7581 (735 S.
