Wayland Union Schools administrators have sent a letter home to parents and guardians of students acknowledging the Wayland Police Department is investigation a former employee of allegations of sexual harassment.

Superintendent Norm Taylor wrote in the letter, “We recently learned of allegations involving a former employee of Wayland Union Schools. The allegations are from a number of years ago and they do not involve our current students. The individual named is no longer a staff member within the district, however, we are cooperating with the Wayland Police Department as they investigate.

“Our first priority is always the health and safety of our students. Wayland Union Schools works to provide active support to children and their family members. In this case when the allegations do not involve a current staff member, we still cooperate with the authorities and investigate the concern while following district policies around due process and student safety.

“Although it is natural to be curious about these types of situations, it is our policy to not speculate or discuss allegations involving students or staff members, past or present. Speculation on such events can be harmful to the individuals involved, as well as the community.

“If at any time, you have concerns or questions regarding a current or past employee, please do not hesitate to contact your building administrator or the superintendent’s office. If you have additional information related to the current allegations, please contact the Wayland Police Department.”

The allegations were initiated in a Facebook group.
