Former Wayland Union Schools Supt. Dr. Christina Hinds was chosen superintendent Monday night at Northview Public Schools Board of Education meeting.
Hinds, who led Wayland from 2020 to 2022, had been serving as interim superintendent since last spring when Supt. Scott Korpak stepped down to retire and recommended her as his replacement.
“The decision to leave has evoked a range of emotions within me,” Korpak said. “However, I am genuinely pleased by the board’s ongoing process of appointing Dr. Christina Hinds as the interim superintendent. Having previously served in this capacity in January and February of this year, she demonstrated exceptional skills and leadership.”
Northview Schools’ official press release said, “The unanimous decision by the board reflects Dr. Hinds’ exemplary performance as Northview’s interim superintendent and her deep understanding of the district’s unique needs.
“Dr. Hinds’ appointment follows an extensive review process by the board of her progress in her role as interim superintendent and reflects the results of a comprehensive staff survey that was conducted by an independent third party to identify the desired qualities in the next district leader. The staff survey revealed an overwhelming consensus highlighting the need for a leader with a proven track record of effective leadership and a passionate commitment to the district’s students, staff and community. Dr. Hinds has consistently demonstrated these qualities during her tenure at Northview.”

I am grateful for the board’s confidence in my abilities and look forward to continuing to build on the rich legacy that Superintendent Korpak developed during his time as leader of Northview.”
When Hinds was hired at Wayland, she was assistant superintendent of student services and curriculum and director of special education and student services in Mattawan. Prior to that, she was special education supervisor for Van Buren ISD for four years, and taught special education for six years.
She began her teaching career in 2000 at Martin, where she taught special education for three years.
She earned an education specialist’s (EdD) degree from Michigan State University, a bachelor’s degree from Western Michigan University and a master’s degree from Grand Valley.
Hinds, who succeeded the retiring Norman Taylor, was at the helm during challenging times because of the continued presence of the Covid-19 virus pandemic and there was much controversy about how schools should respond.
Hinds was recruited early in 2022 by Northview to serve as deputy superintendent with the obvious opportunity to move up to the top position.
