Former Wayland High School softball standout Emma Ludema had more than a pretty good opening day Monday for the Calvin University Knights.

Ludema came on in the seventh inning to hurl one frame and save a 6-5 victory over Bethany Lutheran. She then tossed a complete game win 7-2 over Marietta (Ohio). Ludema walked only one batter and struck out 11.

Ludema, an all-state pitcher for Wayland during her prep years, is a sophomore at Calvin. She was the No. 2 pitcher for the Knights a season ago.
