
Southwest Enforcement Team (SWET) deputies from the Allegan County Sheriff’s Office apprehended four people on drug charges Wednesday when they stopped a car near the U.S.-131 freeway and 116th Street in Martin Township.
The four Kalamazoo residents were arrested after about 400 grams of crystal meth were seized from the vehicle.
SWET representatives said several suspects resisted arrest and another tried to destroy evidence by tearing open packages containing what is believed to be narcotics and then throwing them into the air and on the road. Three officers who were exposed to the substances were taken to the hospital for evaluations. One deputy was bitten by a suspect, and he sustained injuries
A search warrant was executed later at a home in Kalamazoo where further “evidence of narcotics distribution was located,”according to authorities.
The four suspects will face charges of resisting and obstructing police causing injury, resisting and obstructing police by attempting to destroy evidence and possession of methamphetamine with intent to deliver.
Their names are being withheld until their arraignments.
