The monthly free food truck served more than 300 people, more than a third of them children, Friday at the United Church of Wayland.
Local organizers reported that the Feeding America truck ran out of food in a little more than an hour. The truck makes its appearance with a variety of goods for the food insecure on the third Friday of every month at the United Church.
The Wayland High School Robotics Club members helped with the distribution.
The distribution, sponsored by Wayland Area Ministries, includes enough food to feed roughly 100 families for three to four days. The types of food available will be fresh fruits and vegetables, milk, yogurt and other dairy products, breads and other baked goods.
Wayland Area Ministries is a joint effort of a group of religious and charitable organizations in the local community — St. Therese of Lisieux Roman Catholic Church, United Church of Wayland, the Bill Howe family, Sts. Cyril & Methodius and the Gun Lake Community Church .
