Frigid snap, snow closes area schools for 3 days

A huge number of school districts and other services were called off again for Tuesday because of a snow storm that dumped at least a half foot of snow on West Michigan Monday and because of severe record-breaking cold temperatures. Wayland Union Supt. Norm Taylor as of Monday evening had called off school for both Tuesday and Wednesday, the latter day said to be struggling to get above zero degrees for a high temperature. Hopkins later Monday evening also decided to close schools for Tuesday and Wednesday, as did Martin. Music concerts planned for Tuesday and Thursday evenings at the Wayland High School Fine Arts Center also have been postponed.
