Frigid temps, bad roads keep public safety busy

Martin Luther King Day proved to be busy day for area public safety personnel. Martin Fire & Rescue reported MFD assisting City of Wayland Fire Dept. on a house fire, as well as units out on the southbound lanes of the U.S.-131 expressway at the 52 mile marker for a car fire with aid from Gun Plain Township Fire. A spokesperson from the department advised, “Drive slow, stay alert” as temperatures and wind chills plummeted below zero.

Yankee Springs Township, Thornapple Township, Leighton Township, Martin Township, Dorr Township and Hopkins Area firefighters assisted Wayland Township with a structure fire at a Wayland Township farm. They battled a bitter cold and windy conditions and smoke and fire. Also assisting were Wayland Area Emergency Services, Allegan County Central Dispatch and the Allegan County Road Commission.
