Full day of activities slated for 4th of July in Hopkins

The annual Hopkins Fourth of July festivities will take place all day Monday, July 4, starting with a 5k race, breakfast in the park and a community non-denominational service downtown.

The annual day of celebration also will include the popular bed races, water balloon toss, sack races, a pie baking contest, a baby and pet photo contest, Bounce House, kids’ tractor pull, kids’ parade, community parade, evening entertainment with “Strum, Dumb and Dumber,” presentation of the color giuard by the FFA.

Hopkins Hometown Celebrations, however, posted May 23 on Facebook an announcement indicating there will be no fireworks display during this year’s annual Fourth of July celebration.

The post said, “Due to the current norm, most professional pyrotechnic companies are experiencing two major limiting factors, which include staffing (drivers and on-site staff) and/or having supply chain issues (no fireworks).

“Due to this restraint, it is making it very hard for professional pyrotechnic companies to fulfill the demands of the public with less resources available than prior years.

“Our committee has exhausted every avenue possible to still try and provide our firework display for this year despite the challenges that are present this year. But each avenue has come to a dead end.

“In order to provide what is best for our 4th of July event (current and future) and our community (on the 4th and after), it is with great sadness to let you all know that there will be NO firework display for this 2022 4th of July Celebration.”

Food and fun vendor tents/tables will be available throughout most the day. Attendees can “walk around and enjoy a relaxing 4th of July in the Village of Hopkins.”
