Shirley M. Syers, age 88, died Friday, Dec. 30.
Shirley worked in various jobs around Wayland throughout her life, but spent most of her life helping husband Arlie on the family farm with whatever needed to be done. When she was younger, she and Arlie would go fishing together, out on the ice or in a boat.
She worked in the garden and canned food for their family. Shirley knitted and crocheted many gifts for family and friends, it was her favorite hobby.
Shirley is survived by her children, Pat Louwenaar, Arlie Jr. and Amy Syers; her grandchildren, Lori and Gil (Kaitlyn, Rachel) Clough, Ken and Karen (Alex, great-great grandson, Reese) Louwenaar, Steve and Julie (Jenna) Louwenaar, Stephanie Syers and fiancé Kenneth Williams, Sarah and Roberto (Abygail) Camacho, John Syers; and her sister, Wilma and Jay Kraima; her sister-in-law, Florence Eylander; and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Arlie; her parents, Edward and Minnie Eylander; her son-in-law, Kenneth Louwenaar; her siblings, John Eylander, Grace James; infant siblings, Edward and Tracy Eylander; and her great-granddaughter, Kassandra Keyzer-Louwenaar.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Jan. 4, at United Church of Wayland, 411 E. Superior St. Rev. Tim Murtaugh will officiate. Interment will be at Hill Cemetery.
Visitation will be held from 4 to 7 PM Tuesday at Kubiak-Cook Funeral Services in Wayland, 312 N. Main St.
