Genevieve “Jean” Elizabeth Reiger, 91, of Wayland, died Saturday, Feb. 24.
She was born Sept. 15, 1926, in Godwin Heights, the daughter of the late Arthur J. Tower and Hannah E. (Stewart) Tower. Jean was married to Floren Merten Reiger for 59 years before his death in 2004. She was preceded in death by her daughter, Patsy Lou (Reiger) Kwast.
She is survived by her son-in-law, Richard F. Kwast, of Grand Rapids, MI, as well as her three grandsons and their wives, Timothy Kwast (Amanda), Daniel Kwast (Erica), Mark Kwast (BethEmily). Her seven great-grandchildren, Isaac, Noah, Benjamin, Josiah, Avonlea, Lincoln, and Oliver, were a constant source of delight to her. She was the 10th of her parents’ eleven children and was preceded in death by all of her siblings.
She was an active member of Moline Baptist Church for six decades and loved to host fellowship gatherings for her church family on her property. Over the years, she traveled to Europe and across the U.S., but enjoyed camping with friends and family most of all.
Visitation with the family will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday, March 1, at Kubiak-Cook Funeral Services 312 N Main St., Wayland.
The funeral will be at 11 a.m. Friday, March 2, at Moline Baptist Church, 4428 Chappell St., Moline,with a one hour visitation before hand. Pastor Luke Veldt will be officiating.
Jean will be laid to rest beside her husband in a private service at the convenience of the family in the Newaygo Cemetery.
The funeral will be on Friday as stated in the obituary, not Saturday as stated in the title.
