Funeral Friday for Martin businessman Daren Mulder

Daren Lee Mulder died Tuesday, Feb. 20, at Kairos Dwelling Hospice Home in Kalamazoo. He was 54.

He was born June 3, 1969, in Plainwell, the son of Larry and Nancy (Meert) Mulder. Daren graduated from Otsego High School in 1987 and attended Kalamazoo Valley Community College. He worked in residential and commercial installation and repair of HVAC systems for 35 years and had owned and operated Mulder Heating and Cooling in Martin.

Daren was an avid Notre Dame football fan and loved the outdoors, hunting, trapping, fishing and taking drives in the country. He was very sociable, easy to talk to and enjoyed spending time with his family and many friends.

In 1990 he married Kristie Howe and shared two children and over 15 years together. 

Surviving are his children, Jack Mulder and Grace Mulder, both of Kentwood; his mother, Nancy; siblings, Lori (Nick) Lodge of Connecticut and Dennis (Amy) Mulder of Plainwell; nieces and nephews, Heather Lodge, Lem Lodge and Ben Mulder.

He was preceded in death by his father, Larry. 

Friends may visit with Daren’s family starting at 10 a.m. Friday, Feb. 23, at the Winkel Funeral Home, Otsego, until the time of the funeral service at 11, with Pastor Todd Meert officiating. Burial will follow at Hillside Cemetery in Plainwell.

Contributions in memory of Daren may be made to Kairos Dwelling or to a scholarship set up for his daughter, Grace.
