Diane Fleek Gonzalez, a 1964 graduate of Wayland High School, died of cancer.
She was born in Pontiac on March 7, 1946, to Norman Leroy Fleek Sr. and Eleanor Irene (Martin) Fleek, the second born of eight children. She lived in Royal Oak, Southfield, then the family moved to Hinsdale, IL for one year, then moved to Wayland, MI where she attended parochial grade school at St. Therese, then graduated from Wayland High School.
Diane worked in Grand Rapids, where she met her husband Victor Gonzalez and they became the parents of three children. Diane and Vic lived in Dearborn for several years and Diane earned her associate’s degree, Summa Cum Laude, from Henry Ford Community College.
She started working at Ford Motor Company as a temporary secretary, then was hired in permanently. She worked her way up to being secretary for the president of Ford Division before retiring. After retirement, she and Vic moved to Cape Coral, FL, then on to Punta Gorda, Fla., where Vic passed away in October 2019.
She is survived by her daughter, Lori Gonzalez (Christopher Day), and her sons, Paul Gonzalez (Jennifer) and Gary Gonzalez; five grandchildren, Drew Gonzalez, Riley Wright, Logan Wright, Cora Wright (Anthony Rice), and Kai Wright, whose mother, Whittney Wright is still considered to be family. She is also survived by her brothers, Norman Fleek II (Jill), Dennis Fleek (Gail), Gerald Fleek (Mary), Michael Fleek (Liz), and sisters, Mary Bailey (Tom), and Sheri Giertz (Rich).
Diane was diagnosed with terminal cancer in October 2021.
A memorial service for both Vic and Diane will be held at Lutheran Church of the Cross in Port Charlotte, Fla., in May 2022. In lieu of flowers, please send donations to Lutheran Church of the Cross in Port Charlotte.
