William “Bill” Wilson, 89, Allegan, died Monday, Sept. 4, at Wings Home.
Born Jan. 21, 1928, in Patoka, Ind., he was the son of the late Tom Wilson and Minerva Elliott Davis. Mr. Wilson married Dorothy A. Opperman on June 26, 1954 and together they enjoyed 63 years of marriage. He joined St. Paul Lutheran Church at that time and has been an active member ever since.
He was a veteran of the United States Army, having served during the Korean War. Mr. Wilson had worked as a foreman for Brundage Company for 41 years. He had also worked for Western Michigan University for five years.
He and his wife enjoyed bowling together on couples leagues. Most important to him, however, was his family. They loved spending the holidays together and he especially looked forward to Christmas dinner with his children and grandchildren.
Besides his wife, Mr. Wilson is survived by his daughters, Carol O’Connor and husband Michael and Sally Gant and husband Norm; siblings, Bob Wilson and wife Fran, June Krug, Joyce Jones, Carrie Mulder and husband John, Judy Kennedy and husband Dennis and Chuck Davis and wife Deel; sister-in-law, Irene Wilson; grandchildren, Katie Montgomery and husband Mike, Michael O’Connor and wife Ramsay, Kelli Featherly and husband Mike and Chad Gant; great-grandchildren, Addison and Riley Montgomery, Owen O’Connor, Luke Featherly and Rylen Gant; aunts, Gladys Johnson and Alice Evans; and many nieces and nephews.
Along with his parents, he was preceded in death by his brothers, Omer Wilson, Lester Wilson and Russell Davis.
The family will receive friends at Gorden Funeral Residence, Hopkins Chapel, Friday, Sept. 8, from 5 until 7 p.m. A funeral will take place at 11 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 9, at St. Paul Lutheran Church with burial to follow in Maplewood Cemetery. Pastor Donald Seelhoff will officiate.
