Funeral will be June 20 for Eleanor DeKoekkoek

Eleanor DeKoekkoek, age 91, died Sunday, June 15.

Eleanor was born on July 12, 1933, in Kalamazoo, to John and Hattie Triezenberg. A graduate of Kalamazoo Christian High School, Class of 1951, she carried her faith and values into every corner of her life.

Eleanor married Joseph DeKoekkoek Sept. 20, 1957. Together, they built a home rooted in love, faith, and devotion—a place where the joy of family flourished. Eleanor’s greatest passion was being a mother and homemaker. She found deep purpose and delight in caring for her children, grandchildren and extended family.

Eleanor was a member of East Martin Christian Reformed Church for 55 years. She lived with quiet strength and compassion, always placing others before herself.

Eleanor was preceded in death by her parents; her infant daughters, Pamela and Patricia; her son, Kenneth; and her siblings Nelly Kloosterman, John Triezenberg, Frank Triezenberg, Elaine Triezenberg and Lois Gunnink.

She is survived by her husband of 67 years, Joseph DeKoekkoek; her children, Daniel (Carol) DeKoekkoek, Ronald (Cheryl) DeKoekkoek, Kevin (Sue) DeKoekkoek and Joel (Sandy) DeKoekkoek; her grandchildren and great grandchildren, and her siblings Harold (Phyllis) Triezenberg and Patti (Pete) Blok.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to East Martin Christian Schools, or East Martin Christian Reformed Church. Envelopes are available at the funeral home.

In accordance with the family’s wishes, a time for visiting will be held at Avink, McCowen & Secord Funeral Home, 120 South Woodhams St., Plainwell, Thursday, June 19, from 4 until 7 p.m. Her funeral will be held at East Martin Christian Reformed Church, 1782 5th St, Martin, the following day,June 20, at 10 a.m. with Pastor Joel DeKoekkoek officiating. Eleanor will be laid to rest during a private committal service at Fort Custer National Cemetery for those wishing to pay their respects.
