Funeral mass is Nov. 18 for Theresa DeVries of Dorr

Theresa (Merren) DeVries age 87, died Friday, Nov 10, after suffering from dementia.

Theresa, after raising a family, worked for Kesslers in Wayland. She was a long-time member of St. Therese Church in Wayland.

She spent her last three years at Byron Manor-Meadow Place under the care of Dr. Tim Tobolic, her long time family physician.

She is survived by her husband Wilford “Bud” DeVries; sons, Roger (Mary Jane) Merren, Ronald (Cathy) Merren, Robert (Darla) Merren, Richard (Janet) Merren, Randall (Mary Jane) Merren, Russell (Beth) Merren; step-sons, Scott (Vicki) DeVries, Steven (Linda) DeVries, David (Carolyn) DeVries, Dean (Alicia) DeVries, Dale (Penny) DeVries; sisters, Marilyn Swiontek, Gerie (Daryl) Fleser; sisters-in-law, Ann Schumaker, Peg Merren and Colleen (Romie) Marklevitz; brothers-in-Law, Bob Weick, Norm (Shirley) DeVries; and numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her first husband, Robert Merren; her parents John and Geneva Schumaker; brother James Schumaker; sister Ruth Weick; brothers and sisters-in-law, Joseph Koperski, Chet Swiontek, Dick and Bette Hines, Eugene and Jean Kotrba and Jerry Merren.

Visitation with the family will be held from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Friday, Nov. 17,  at Kubiak-Cook Funeral Home, Dorr Chapel, 4330 18th St, Dorr, with a rosary beginning at 7:30 p.m. Funeral mass will be held at at 9:30 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 18, at St. Therese Catholic Church with Father Alphonse Savarimuthu officiating. Interment will be at Dorr Cemetery.

In memory of Theresa, contributions may be made to St. Therese Church, Wayland V.F.W. or Kindred Hospice of Grand Rapids.
