Funeral mass Wednesday for David Hanley of Dorr

David Charles Hanley, age 71, died Friday, July 6.

David led a spiritually, emotionally and physically balanced life and dedicated himself to helping others to do the same.  With his master’s degree in social work from the University of Michigan, passion for reading, and continuous growth, he served for more than 40 years as a clinical social worker, marriage and family therapist and family business consultant.

David was a founding member of Project Rachel in the Diocese of Grand Rapids. He recently published a children’s book “The Missing Chalice.” David’s strength was rooted in his Catholic faith.

He is survived by his wife of 41 years, Mary Lucia Hanley (Godwin); his children Anne and Vincent Valenza, Joseph Hanley, Jeanne and Nathan Thelen, Maureen and Richard Budd; his grandchildren Garrett, Lucy, Charlie, Mary, David, Joan, Eleanor, Anton, John Paul, and one on the way; his siblings Richard and Anne Hanley, Barbara and Tim Kleaveland, James and Theresa Hanley, John and Michelle Hanley, Paul and Margie Hanley; Mary’s siblings Elizabeth Godwin, Thomas and Carol Godwin, William and Beth Godwin, Teresa and Robert Lanahan, John and Theresa Godwin, Margaret and Robert Jacobs, Catherine Godwin, James Godwin, Michael and Colleen Godwin, Martha and James Knox, Brian and Brenda Godwin; and many nieces and nephews.

David was preceded in death by his parents, Edmund and Jeanne Hanley; and his sister-in-law, Paula Godwin.

Visitation will be from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday with a Rosary at 7:30 p.m. at Kubiak-Cook Funeral Services, 4330 18th St., Dorr. The funeral mass will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday, July 11, at St. Stanislaus Catholic Church, 1871 – 136th  Ave. in Dorr. Reverend James Vinh Le will be the celebrant. Interment will be at St. Stanislaus Cemetery.
