Former Wayland Township Supervisor Erwin Doublestein, 88, of Wayland died Sunday, Jan. 9.
Erwin served in the U.S. Navy in the Pacific during World War II. He was recognized as Veteran of the Year for 2011 by the Wayland VFW Post 7581. He retired as a supervisor at Checker Motors after 27 years and served as Wayland Township Supervisor for 12 years.
Erwin was a member of SS. Cyril and Methodius Catholic Church in Gun Lake and the Wayland VFW for many years.
Erwin is survived by his wife of 68 years, Anne Doublestein (Chlebana); his sons, Erwin and Cathy, Gary and Linda, Scott and Pam; his six grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; his brothers, Clifford, Bernard and Mary Ann, Rev. William and Karen Doubblestein; and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Floyd and Velma Doublestein; brothers, Robert, Duane and Charles Doublestein.
A time for relatives and friends to visit with the family will be held from 5 to 8 p.m. Monday with a Rosary service beginning at 5 p.m., at Kubiak-Cook Funeral Services, in Wayland, 312 N. Main St. Funeral Mass will be held 11 AM Tuesday, Jan. 12, at SS. Cyril and Methodius Catholic Church, 159 131st in Wayland, Father Christian Johnston, presiding.
