Dorothy Carolyn Short, age 76, died Wednesday, April 19, at her home in Wayland.
She was born on March 23, 1947, in LaFollette, Tenn., to Maude and Charles Smith. She retired from Kent Community Hospital in Grand Rapids, Mich.
Dorothy truly lived life to the fullest through the simple pleasures, garage sales, thrift store shopping, Bingo and the casino, but most of all being with her family. Dorothy has left nothing but good memories with everyone who knew her as a beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, aunt and friend. She will be remembered for her smile, her cooking, her kind heart, and her fiery spirit that served to strengthen everyone.
She is survived by her children, Tammy Carringer, Tim Coleman, Fred Gross, Kandus (Mark) Cody, Skip (Jamie) Short, Corey Short, 13 grandchildren and 20 great-crandchildren.
Dorothy is preceded in death by her son, Mark Gross, as well as her parents and all her siblings.
Family, friends and others are invited to celebrate her life at Second Byron Christian Reformed Church, 7588 Byron Center Ave from 10 to 11 a.m. Tuesday, May 2, with the service following immediately with a luncheon at noon. For anyone who is unable to attend, there will be a gathering in the evening at her home in Wayland from 4 to 6 p.m.
In lieu of flowers the family is requesting memorials be sent to the above named church.
